Microblading, powder brows or lamination: where to start
Three ways of working the brow, three different paths. How to choose a first course from what you want to offer.

Anyone moving into professional brow work meets three names straight away: microblading, powder brows, lamination. They only look alike. Two are permanent makeup, one is not, and each asks something different of the hand.
Microblading
Hair by hair strokes drawn with a manual blade, following the natural growth of the brow. It is the technique of the precise stroke: it needs a steady hand and an eye trained on the direction of the hair.
Powder brows
A soft shaded brow built with the machine, from a light veil to a defined finish. The work is about building and shading rather than line, and it also suits skin on which a fine stroke tends to blur.
Lamination
This is not permanent makeup: the natural hair is restructured and set in the direction that suits the face. No pigment goes under the skin, and the result shows straight away.
How to choose your first course
Start from what you want to offer your clients and where you work today. If you come from beauty therapy and want a service to add to the ones you already offer, lamination is often the first step. If you want to move into permanent makeup, microblading and powder brows are the two roads, and knowing both lets you offer each client the technique that suits her skin.
